just to make something clear, i still have my dad, and i'm only in eighth grade.
I have great memories about riding in the car with my dad and singing to this song. i remember going to silver mountain, and hearing this song, and crying as soon as we walked in the gate and the ticket keeper gave my grandma a weird look.
but i have to disagree with the other comments. i don't think that anyone can sing this song with the power to reach people with the lyrics and make them feel emotions that are so real better than Luther Vandross.
he is a very skilled singer. no one can take his place and i think that someone may come to a second, but the best version of this song is the origional voice.
and i thnk that the male voice is very powerful and is more comforting.

My brother came home one night from work after being on the road and herd this song for the first time and when he did, it sent shivers down his back to the point his hair stood on end because he never met his father but thought of my mother and brother. my mom married at the age of 18 to my brothers father and he passed away at the age of 20 due to a heart attack. my mom was pregnant with my 2nd brother at the time. every night my mother cried and my brother felt lost. and he was only 2 years old at the time. so i found this song for my mom cause she wanted to hear it and every time she listens to it, she remembers and crys. i dont think she still hasn't let go even to this day and my brothers now are 24 and 26. i've never experienced the loss of a father but i have experienced it through my family from what they say about it. im only 22 years old and the only way that i can relate to not having a dad is because since my dad started dating my step mom and remarried i have been left out. we never communicate hardly anymore and i feel that i dont have a dad. but my brothers and i are all greatful for our step dad who has been there for us through the biggest percentage of our lives. i feel extreemly bad for what my mom has gone through and i sit there and cry every time she talks about her one true love (her first husband)

this songs reminds meof my grandpa beacues when i was little i used to live with my grandpa and grandama because my mom and dad had to work. i always went to there house on the weekends and had so much fun with him. i moved out of their house i moved in with my mom and dad. i hardly ever saw my dad cause he got up at 5 for work and come home at 10-11. he worked 7 days a week. i trated my grandpa like he was my fahter. he means so much to me. even though he died 2 years ago it still seems like he is still with me.

There is some sad news out of the Vandross camp. Luther died today at 1:47 PM ET at JFK Medical Center in Edison, NJ. After suffering a debilitating stroke in April 2003, he never was able to recover and passed today at the age of 54. This song has and will always be my favorite song by Luther. Though he has passed on, his music will live on forever.
