I played this song to my wife when we celebrated our 25th Wedding Anniversary, and there wasn't a dry eye in the house - of 60 people.

DJ Beck Says This Is The Perfect New Mother Son Wedding Song

The Song Lyrics:

"ON THIS DAY" (THE WEDDING SONG)

EVEN THOUGH I SEEMED TO CHANGE MY STYLE
EVEN THOUGH I CHANGED MYSELF
FROM FASHION TO MY SMILE

YOU HELD ME UP
AND BELIEVED I WAS WORTHWHILE
GUIDING ME WITH GENTLE HANDS
THAT HELPED SET MY DIRECTION
PAVED THE WAY
BEFORE I WALKED EACH MILE

YOU WERE THERE FOR ME, MOM

YOU’D ALWAYS BRUSH THE TEARDROPS
FROM MY EYES
TODAY I WIPE THE TEARS FROM YOUR’S
I NEVER WANT TO SEE YOU CRY
AFTER ALL, THIS TIME IS MEANT FOR SMILES
ON THIS WEDDING DAY

I JUST WANT TO SAY
I LOVE YOU, MOM

CHORUS
OOOOOOH I MADE MISTAKES AS I BECAME A MAN
YOU’D ALWAYS UNDERSTAND
JUST AS A MOTHER CAN
I PROMISE YOU TO TREAT
MY WIFE THE SAME
AND I’M PROUD TO SAY
YOU HELPED ME FEEL THIS WAY

INSTRUMENTAL

REPEAT CHORUS MORE LIVELY AND WITH MORE ENERGY

I MADE MISTAKES AS I BECAME A MAN
YOU’D ALWAYS UNDERSTAND
JUST AS A MOTHER CAN
I PROMISE YOU TO TREAT
MY WIFE THE SAME
AND I’M PROUD TO SAY
YOU HELPED ME FEEL THIS WAY

EVEN THOUGH I SEEMED TO CHANGE MY STYLE
EVEN THOUGH I CHANGED MYSELF
FROM FASHION TO MY SMILE
I LEAVE YOUR GUIDING HAND
TO WALK THE AISLE

ON MY WEDDING DAY

I JUST WANT TO STOP

AND THANK YOU

I WANT TO SAY I LOVE YOU, MOM

OH YES I DO

OH A OH A OH

(SPOKEN WORDS) I LOVE YOU, MOM
hope it was for me

I love this song, but I do think it's better for anniversaries. It just doesn't fit a wedding, because weddings are like new love. Through The Years talks about being together for a long time.
It's for all...

This song is for everyone. It should not be pigeonholed. Of course, it was certainly written about two lovers (who don't HAVE to be married anyway) that have stayed together for life. However, Kenny Rogers states that the song has been played for parents and their children, and what is wrong with that? Can't parents celebrate the relationship they have with their children and vice versa, just like two lovers can celebrate a totally different kind of relationship between each other?

Kenny Rogers himself stated that one fan once told him this was the song the family played at their father’s funeral; which he was pleased about. While this song reminds me first and foremost of my wife, after hearing that I realized that on a different scale it can also sum up relationships with other dear ones in my life, and that shows what a great song this is! If my children played this at my funeral, then I would rest easy, knowing I did my job as a parent.
It's perfect...

I feel this song is perfect for my father and I. No man in my past has ever stood by my side or showed me unconditional love like my father. Now that I have found someone incredible that treats me wonderful, I feel this song is the one song that my dad and I can share to show how much we have been through together and how much we mean to one another...
A tribute to my Dad

I heard this beautiful song by chance and thought how apt it was for my Dad. He's only recently become a Grandad to my daughter and everyday that he spends with her shows me how great a father he's always been and continues to be to me, and now to my daughter. If only he knew how much I truly am grateful for his wisdom and love...all through the years. I love you, Papa.
It brought down the house...

I just returned from a wedding where it was played when the groom danced with his only sibling, his older sister. In the past 2 years they've been dealing with their mother's death from cancer and it was a very emotional time for everyone. Their mom had made the groom promise to dance with his sister at the wedding, this was the song he chose. Not a dry eye in the house. It was very appropriate for a little brother to dedicate to his big sister.

I don't think this song should be a wedding song. It's more of an anniversary song. It shows that love is strong when there's someone returning it. Through the good times and bad.

I do not think that this song should be for the groom and mother or for the bride and father. This song lend more to the times a couple share before the marriage. It give a feeling that the children do not want to move on or vice versa.
